Byhalia sits where I-22 and I-269 meet in northwest Marshall County, about half an hour east of our base in Hernando.
If you need roofing in Byhalia, MS, Advance Roofing & Restoration covers the town from Hernando, about half an hour away by I-269. Greg Stephens owns the company, and we handle roof repair, replacements, free inspections and storm tarping for homes in and around Byhalia.
Byhalia is one of the older settlements in Marshall County. It was founded in the 1830s, took its name from Byhalia Creek, which still runs along the east side of town, and was incorporated in 1873. The Byhalia Historic District along Church Street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
For most of its history the town stayed small: the census counted 955 people in 1990 and 1,302 in 2010. A 2005 annexation pushed the town limits outward, so a Byhalia address can mean an older house near Church Street or a house farther out toward the interstates. Those two roofs rarely need the same thing.
A leak is usually one small failure in one place: a pipe boot split by summer heat, a nail head working loose, a valley worn thin by years of runoff. We trace the water to that place and fix it. If the rest of the roof is sound, we say so and quote only the repair.
Whether the house is near the old center or out along MS 309, an inspection means someone on the roof checking the shingles, flashing, vents and decking. We walk you through what we found, slope by slope, and it costs you nothing.
Leaves and pine straw piling up in a valley hold water against the shingles, and a cracked seal around a vent only gets worse with time. A maintenance visit clears the debris, reseals what needs it and replaces the odd damaged shingle before it becomes a leak.
When the shingles are bald, curling or brittle on every slope, another patch only buys a little time. We tear off to the decking, replace boards that have gone soft, put the new roof on, and clean up the yard and driveway before we go.
From Hernando we take I-269 east toward I-22 and come into town on MS 309, which has its own exit on both interstates. The drive is about half an hour, so an inspection, a second look after a repair or a tarp after a storm is an ordinary trip for us.
Byhalia also sits between two towns we already cover. Olive Branch lies to the west along US 78, and Holly Springs, the Marshall County seat, is about 16 miles southeast on I-22.
Older Houses Near Church Street
The houses in and around the historic district are a different job from anything built in the last few decades. Over the years many have had a new roof laid over the old one, additions tied in at odd angles and flashing patched more than once. Water can run a long way along old decking before it shows up on a ceiling.
So on an older Byhalia home we look at the whole roof before suggesting anything, and we explain what looks original and what has been redone. Our roof repair page covers what a typical repair involves.
Storms and Trees in Northwest Marshall County
Spring and summer storm lines cross North Mississippi from the west, and a lot of Byhalia sits in open country where wind has room to build. Hard gusts lift shingle edges and peel back ridge caps, and the big pines and hardwoods around many homes can drop limbs onto a roof.
After a storm, look from the yard for shingles lying in the grass, a ridge cap that has lifted, or dark patches where granules were knocked off. If something looks wrong, a free roof inspection tells you what you are dealing with. If you file a claim, we can be on the roof when the adjuster comes out, and the claim itself stays between you and your insurer.

Do you cover Byhalia and the rest of northwest Marshall County?
Yes. Byhalia is about half an hour from our base in Hernando by I-269, and we take repair, replacement, inspection and emergency calls on homes in town and out in the surrounding county.
Is there a charge to look at my roof in Byhalia?
No. Roof inspections and estimates are free. We get on the roof, check the shingles, flashing, vents and decking, and go over what we found with you before any price comes up.
Can you repair just a section of a roof?
Often, yes. If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof is in fair shape, repairing that section is usually the sensible fix. After the inspection we tell you plainly whether a repair will hold.
How can I stop my roof from leaking until it is fixed?
Move belongings away from the drip, catch the water and stay off a wet roof. Then call (901) 350-5290. We are open 24 hours, and the first step is a tarp or temporary cover to keep the house dry until the permanent repair.
Does homeowners insurance cover roof leaks?
That depends on your policy and on what caused the leak, and only your insurer can decide it. We can inspect the roof, show you what we found and be there when the adjuster comes out. If the claim is approved, we work from the scope your insurer approved.
Do you work on older homes near the Byhalia Historic District?
Yes. On an older house we look at how the roof was built and what has been redone before recommending anything. If your home is in the historic district, check with the town about any rules on roofing materials before work is scheduled.
