Walls sits in the far northwest corner of DeSoto County, out where the Delta flattens toward the river, and it is part of the county we cover from Hernando.
If you need a roofing company in Walls, MS, Advance Roofing & Restoration covers the town from our base in Hernando, on the other side of DeSoto County. Greg Stephens owns the company, and we handle leaks, storm damage, free inspections and full roofs. Horn Lake is the next town to the east, and Memphis is to the north.
The place was called Alpika before it took the name Walls in 1906, after Captain June Walls, a Civil War veteran who settled there and kept a store in the early 1880s. It stayed an unincorporated community for most of a century and only became a town in 2003 and 2004, when it annexed the old village of Memphis, Mississippi. The name also lives on in archaeology: the Walls phase, the last prehistoric culture in this corner of the Mid-South, is named for a village site near town.
Walls is still farm country at the edges, with cotton, soybeans, rice and corn going in each spring, but it has been growing. The census counted 1,162 people in 2010 and 1,351 in 2020. That growth means Walls has two kinds of roofs: older farmhouses, and newer homes built as the town filled in.
Out on flat Delta ground, wind tends to work at the same spots every time: the ridge, the rake edges and the first row of shingles above the gutter. We find where the roof actually gave way and repair that, and if a repair is all it needs, that is all we quote.
A storm that crosses open fields can lift a whole run of shingles at once. We are open 24 hours, so call whenever it happens; a tarp or temporary cover goes on first to dry the house in, and the permanent repair follows.
From the ground, a roof that is fine and a roof with creased shingles can look the same. We go up, look at the shingles, flashing, vents and decking, and show you what we found, with no charge for the visit.
Whether the house is an older farmhouse or a newer home in town, a worn-out roof gets the same treatment: tear-off to the decking, soft boards replaced, then the new roof. The yard and driveway get cleaned up before we leave.
Walls sits on the flat bottomland near the Mississippi River, and around the edges of town there is a lot of open field between one house and the next. A storm line gets a long, clear run at a roof out here.
That is why wind damage on a Walls house usually shows up at the edges first. Look from the yard for shingles flipped back to show a lighter strip, a ridge cap that has shifted, or bare patches near the eaves. If you see any of it, our emergency roofing line is open around the clock.
Older Homes and Newer Ones in the Same Town
Because Walls grew slowly for decades and then picked up speed, a single street can hold a house that has been through three roofs and one that is still on its first. On the older houses, the questions are about decking and the joints where a porch or an addition ties into the main roof. On the newer ones, pipe boots and ridge vents are often the first parts to go.
We look at the whole roof either way before saying what it needs. Our roof repair page covers what a typical repair involves.
Coming Across DeSoto County From Hernando
Hernando is the DeSoto County seat and Walls sits at the county's northwest corner, so a call from Walls goes to a company in the same county. The towns in between, Southaven and Horn Lake, are part of our service area too.

Repair first if it will hold. We tell you plainly when a repair is enough, and we do not quote more than the roof needs.
That joint is sealed with flashing. Where a sloped roof runs along a wall, step flashing is woven in with the shingles, and counter flashing covers it from the wall side. On a Walls house with a porch roof or an addition tied into the main house, that joint is one of the first places we look for a leak.
What is the roof structure made of?
Rafters or trusses carry the roof, and decking boards are fastened across them. Underlayment goes over the decking, then the shingles, with flashing at the edges, valleys, walls and anything that comes through the roof. When we replace a roof, we tear off to the decking and replace any boards that have gone soft before the new roof goes on.
How do I know if a roof quote for my Walls home is too high?
A fair number depends on the roof you actually have: its size, its pitch, how many layers are on it and what shape the decking is in. The way to know is an inspection and a written estimate that spells out the work. Ours are free, and if a repair is enough we tell you that instead of quoting a new roof.
Can you repair just a section of a roof?
Often, yes. If wind lifted shingles along one edge or a pipe boot has cracked, fixing that section is usually the sensible call. If the whole roof is brittle or bare of granules, we explain why patching one part will not hold.
Who do I call in Walls if the roof starts leaking at night?
Call us at (901) 350-5290. We are open 24 hours. The first step is a tarp or temporary cover to keep water out, and the permanent repair comes after that.
Is the roof inspection in Walls really free?
Yes. We go up on the roof, look at the shingles, flashing, vents and decking, and walk you through what we found. There is no charge for the inspection or the estimate.

Advance Roofing and Restoration was great to work with. I experienced almost 2 Years of agony because my insurance company denied my claim.
