Senatobia is the next county seat down I-55 from our base in Hernando, about 15 miles south, and Tate County homes are part of our service area.
Senatobia is the Tate County seat, and from Advance Roofing’s base in Hernando it is about 15 miles south on I-55 or US 51. Greg Stephens and his team come down for roof replacement, roof repair, free inspections and storm calls on houses in town and on the county roads that run out from it.
The town grew up along the railroad. Its downtown, now the Downtown Senatobia Historic District, developed after the railroad between Memphis and Grenada opened in 1856, and Senatobia took its name from Senatobia Creek and received its charter in 1860. When Tate County was organized in 1873, Senatobia became its seat. Northwest Mississippi Community College is here too, which keeps the town busier than its size suggests.
North of town, Arkabutla Lake sits on the Coldwater River where Tate County meets DeSoto County, behind a dam the Corps of Engineers built between 1940 and 1943. Between the lake, the river bottoms and the farmland, a lot of Tate County is open ground, and open ground gives a storm a long, clear run at a roof before anything slows the wind down.
When the shingles on a Senatobia house are curling, cracking or bare across whole slopes, we quote a full replacement. The old roof comes off, the decking gets checked and any bad sheets are replaced, and the new shingles go down over sound wood.
Plenty of Tate County roofs have years left in them and one problem spot: a pipe boot that has split in the sun, a valley that sheds water the wrong way, a few tabs gone after a gust. We find the cause and fix it, and we will tell you if a repair is the sensible call.
Not sure whether your roof needs a repair or a replacement? A free inspection settles it. We go over the whole roof and walk you through the condition, so the decision is yours and is based on the roof you have.
Houses out in the county sit under more trees and take more wind than houses in town. A maintenance visit clears debris from valleys, checks the seals around vents and chimneys, and catches the small things before they get a chance to leak.
A replacement in Senatobia usually comes down to one question: is the roof still doing its job, or just hanging on? Granules collecting at the downspouts, shingles that crack when they are lifted, and dark streaks where the surface has worn thin all point to a roof near the end. A single leak by itself usually does not.
We start every replacement conversation with an inspection, then put the scope in writing: tear-off, decking, underlayment, new shingles and the flashing that ties it all together. If a repair will buy you real time instead, we say so.
Houses Near the Old Downtown
The streets around the historic downtown hold some of Senatobia’s older houses, and older roofs bring their own habits. A second layer of shingles laid over the first adds weight and hides what is going on underneath. Chimney flashing on an older home may have been sealed with tar more than once instead of being replaced.
On a house like that we look closely at the transitions, where the roof meets a wall, a chimney or a lower porch roof, because that is where older roofs most often let water through.
Out on the County Roads
Away from town, a Tate County house might be surrounded by pasture on three sides and a tree line on the fourth. Open exposure means wind uplift along the edges and ridge, and a tree line means branches, leaves and shade that keep a roof damp. Shade and damp let moss and debris build up in the valleys.
If spring or summer storms have moved through and you are not sure what they did, call for a free roof inspection. It costs nothing to know.

How do I know if my Senatobia roof needs replacing or just a repair?
Book a free inspection. We look over the whole roof and explain what we see. Widespread granule loss, cracking or curling across the slopes usually means replacement; one leak on an otherwise sound roof usually means a repair.
Is the roof inspection free for Tate County homes?
Yes. Inspections and estimates are free in Senatobia and the rest of Tate County, and there is no obligation to go ahead with the work.
A storm came through Tate County. What should I check?
From the ground, look for missing or flipped shingles, bent ridge caps or flashing, and granules piled at the downspouts. If anything looks wrong, call (901) 350-5290 and we will come look at it. If you are weighing a claim, filing is up to you, and we will meet the adjuster at the house if you go ahead.
Can you help if my roof is leaking right now?
Yes. We are open 24 hours, so call any time, day or night, and we will talk through getting a tarp or temporary cover on to keep water out until the permanent repair.
What kind of roofs do you work on around Senatobia?
Mostly asphalt shingle roofs on homes, which is what most Tate County houses have. We handle replacement, repair, inspection, maintenance and emergency work on residential roofs.
