Wind-damaged shingles, worn-out first roofs and leaks after a storm, from a roofer based thirteen miles down I-55.
Southaven is the biggest city in DeSoto County and, at 54,648 people in the 2020 census, the third largest in Mississippi. It sits right against the Tennessee line, about 14 miles south of downtown Memphis, and Advance Roofing & Restoration reaches it from our base in Hernando with a drive of roughly 13 miles straight up I-55.
The city got its start as a set of subdivisions. Memphis homebuilder Kemmons Wilson, who founded Holiday Inn, built small starter homes just across the state line from Whitehaven, and the new community took its name from being south of that Memphis neighborhood. It grew into a village first and did not incorporate as a city until 1980.
For a roofer, that history means a lot of Southaven houses were built close together, by the same builders, in the same years. Neighbors on one street often have roofs of about the same age, put on the same way, and when one starts to give out after a windstorm, the houses beside it are worth a look too.
Gusts that sweep through on a spring or summer storm can lift a shingle just enough to break its seal without tearing it off, and from the street the roof looks fine. We get up on it, check the seal lines, ridge and edges, and tell you what we found.
When a Southaven roof is past patching, we strip it to the decking, swap out any rotten boards and install a new shingle roof. Before we leave, the yard, beds and driveway get cleaned of nails and old shingles.
We are open 24 hours. If water is coming in, the first job is a tarp or temporary cover to dry the house in, and the permanent work is scheduled for when the roof is dry enough to do it properly.
Wind is one of the most common causes of roof damage in a place this exposed to spring and summer storms, and it is not always obvious. A shingle that flapped during a storm can settle back flat and look normal while the adhesive strip underneath has let go. The next strong gust takes it, or rain gets driven under it. That is why a roof can start leaking weeks after the storm that actually caused the problem.
If a storm has gone through, we inspect the roof and show you what we find. Whether any of it goes to your insurer is a decision we leave with you.
A Review From Dickens Place
One of our customers, Jeanifer Workman, lives in the Dickens Place subdivision in Southaven. Her roof had wind damage and was replaced, and she wrote about it on Google in her own words. Her review is in the reviews section on this page, word for word, if you want to read how it went from her side.
Commercial Roofing in Southaven, MS
Homes are not the only roofs in Southaven. The roof over a store, an office or a church along Goodman Road needs the same honest look a house roof does, and we do commercial roof repair, replacement, inspections and storm tarping for Southaven businesses, starting with a free inspection. Our commercial roofing page explains how it works.
Goodman Road, Snowden Grove and Everything in Between
Southaven runs from the state line down past Goodman Road, with I-55 and I-69 cutting through the middle and neighborhoods spread out on both sides. Whether your house is near Snowden Grove Park or out toward the Horn Lake side of town, the trip from Hernando is short, and the inspection is free either way.
If you live across the line in Memphis or next door in Horn Lake, we cover those too. Our home base is Hernando.
Why Southaven Homeowners Call Us
Thirteen miles away. Southaven is about 13 miles up I-55 from our base in Hernando.
We know what wind does to shingles. Broken seals and lifted tabs are easy to miss from the ground, so we check from the roof.
You deal with the owner’s company. Greg Stephens owns Advance Roofing, and his team does the work.
The yard gets cleaned. Nails and old shingles get picked up before the crew leaves your house.
How far is Southaven from where Advance Roofing is based?
We are based in Hernando, about 13 miles south of Southaven by way of I-55. Southaven is inside our service area.
A storm went through Southaven but I do not see damage. Should I get the roof checked?
It is worth a free inspection. Wind can break the seal under a shingle without tearing it off, and that kind of damage is hard to spot from the ground. If we find nothing, we will tell you that.
Will you be there when the insurance adjuster looks at my Southaven roof?
We will meet the adjuster at the house if you would like us there. The claim is yours to make with your insurer, and we stay out of that part.
Have you replaced roofs in Southaven before?
Yes. One customer in the Dickens Place subdivision had her wind-damaged roof replaced by our crew, and her Google review is shown on this page in her own words.
What happens to the old shingles and nails after a replacement?
The crew tears the old roof off, hauls the debris away and cleans up the yard, flower beds and driveway before leaving, including the nails.
Can I call at night if my Southaven roof is leaking during a storm?
Yes, any hour of the night. Call (901) 350-5290 and we will work out getting a tarp or temporary cover on to keep the water out until the roof can be repaired.
